DNSI Welcomes its Summer Interns

We are pleased to introduce our 2007 summer interns, a very talented and diverse group of law students. We look forward to working with them this term!

Brian Chan
Brian Chan is a student at the University of Virginia School of Law. He is a graduate of Penn State University, where he received a bachelors’ degree with high distinction in Crime, Law and Justice. While at Penn State, he served as Executive Chair of the Student Judiciary, the body of students responsible for hearing cases of student discipline. Brian is a former intern for the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.

Gauri Patil
Gauri is currently a law student at the University of Notre Dame. She received her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in 2004, graduating Summa Cum Laude and as Class Marshall of the College of Criminal Justice. Gauri was a Reggie Lewis Scholar and given the Harold D. Hodgkinson Achievement Award for Outstanding Senior for her undergraduate excellence. She earned University Honors distinction with the completion of her thesis, “Analyzing the Underreporting of Domestic Violence among the Greater Boston South Asian Population.” Gauri also served as an officer of both the Criminal Justice Honor Society and the Criminal Justice Student Advisory Council. After graduation, Gauri worked as a paralegal for Liberty Mutual Group in Boston, where she learned valuable practical experience about the law.

At Notre Dame, Gauri is an active member of the Asian Law Students Association and will serve as an executive board member for the upcoming school year. She also will be studying abroad in London and is looking forward to learning about the interaction of law and international affairs. Gauri will be receiving her J.D. in May 2009.

Jamila Willis
Miss Willis is currently a law student at The University of Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in both Economics and Communications and minors in French and Linguistics. During her undergraduate years, she spent time volunteering with The Special Olympics and the International Rescue Committee, and served as an executive board member for The West Philadelphia Tutoring Project. In her final year at Penn, she was inducted into Friars Senior Society for her dedication to the university community.

Miss Willis has recently developed a growing interest in civil and international human rights. She has interned and conducted legal research for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Child Advocacy Research and Education organization, and The Bronx Defenders.
